From the Greek words "Amphi" (on both sides) and "Bios" (life)
Amphibian: Living in two worlds: land and water
Voiture amphibie Ulysse Texier De la Caillerie - Comete 1932
The history of locomotion is always fascinating. The first automobile was put through its paces in early 1800, and oddly enough, inventors at the time immediately wanted to make cars float. In 1804 the first amphibian automobile left dry land to cross a river. Oliver Evans designed the Orukter Amphibolos on the basis of a wooden cart fitted with a steam engine driving four wheels for land use and a paddle wheel for water propulsion.
Rétromobile will present an extraordinary account of the history of amphibian vehicles, including the Comet designed by Ulysse Texier de la Caillerie in 1932, the Trippel , and the Hydromobile with its entire deck fitted out like a Riva speedboat.
